Types of Skin

Why its necessary to know your skin types? Proper skin care can be different for different skin types. Hence you need to know your skin type. Here is some general information on skin types to help you know about your skin type:

  • Normal Skin Type : This is soft and natural skin with small to medium pore size. Normal skin is usually firm and elastic.
  • Dry Skin Type : Dry skin is will small pore size. Quite rough and with flaking. No oily areas at all.
  • Oily Skin Type : Oily skin is with larger and more visible pores. Oily skin looks shiny and also has a sort of hardness to it that goes beyond the nice firmness of normal skin
  • Combination Skin Type : Combination skin type is of those, who have one part of their skin as oily and other as dry or normal. The term "T-zone" refers to combination skin types where the forehead, nose and chin are oily but the cheeks and the area around the eyes is either normal or dry.
  • Sensitive Skin Type : A person with sensitive skin has more trouble with environment and the cosmetics used. Their skin cannot handle exteme environmental changes like extreme sunlight etc.
  • Blemished Skin Type : Blemished skin is characterized by chronic pustules, blackheads, whiteheads, and sometimes scarring. Blemished skin is most common during the teenage years, but it is not uncommon to find this conditions in adults. Teenage skin is prone to blemishes because of the increase in hormone production, which stimulates oil glands in the skin. It the oil flows freely from the pore, blemishes will not develop and the skin will simply be an "oily skin" type. However, this overproduction of oil often combines with a build-up of dead skin cells and clogs the pores. As pressure builds up, leakage into the surrounding tissue occurs. Bacteria flourish in the clogged pore and the surrounding inflamed tissues, resulting in an infection and a blemish.
  • Aging Skin Type : "Aging" is a characteristic that may be combined with any of the other skin types - for example, aging/sensitive skin or aging/dry skin, or it can simply mean mature skin. When the agin condition is present, it may be appropriate for the individual, or it may be "premature".
