Used on a daily basis to encourage relaxation and peace of mind, aromatherapy is an effective and vauable practice that can alleviate stress. Essential oils especially good for thispurpose are marjoram (in small amounts), chamomile(Roman), clay sge, bergamot, lavender, sandalwood,jasmine and rose. When stress has caused lethargy, occasional use of stimulating essentialoils such as rosemary or peppermint can be helpful. Essential oils can be used in warm baths, on a handkerchief that issniffed frequently, or diluted in a base oil and massaged into the skin.
The herbal kingdom also provides us with valuable aids for stress management.Siberian ginseng is excellent for stengthening the body`s resistance to the effects of stress. Relaxing herbs that calm the nervous system include valerian, hops, passion, flower, skullcap, chamomile, and lavender. Herbs that can tone the nervous system are oats, St. Johnswort, and vervain. Herbs are easiy used in hot or cold teas, and in foot baths or full baths.
